Cold Storage Automation Has Always Quit at the Pick

Walk almost any “automated” freezer and you’ll still find this: a person in full cold gear, scanner in hand, picking cases beside a conveyor at -20°F. Transport got automated. Storage got automated. The pick — the most labor-intensive job in the building — stayed human, because frozen product defeats ordinary robotics: frosted, deformed cases and dense product that standard grippers were never engineered to hold.
